Todd Kidd - The Australian Light Welterweight Champion

Todd Kidd fighting for Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Todd Kidd
is one Lad who is not going to relinquish his crown as reigning Queensland and Australian Champion without giving his opponent the fight of his life.
Todd blitzed his way through the A.R.A.F.U.R.A & Oceania Games in 2005, to represent Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and in various international tournaments.

His position in Australia's most successful boxing team to date, was a culimnation of sheer determination, grit and discipline. Yet, despite his Commonwealth campaign being cut short, Todd's victories against his Indian and Canadian opponents (both international favourites to win Gold) were achievements he can be proud of.

With his sponsorship with the B.L.F.Q, Todd is one of the very few Olympic Style Boxers able to train as a full time athlete. The B.L.F.Q have been outstanding supporters of Todd Kidd and the Sport of Boxing. With his sights now firmly set on the 2008 Olympics, the BLF are paving the way for the possibility of Australia's first Olympic Gold Medal in Boxing.

Todd's intensive training has given him greater physical and mental strength and a determination that is showing no signs of stopping. Todd has learnt the value of preparation and balance over his time with the A.I.S and this shows. He is a feared competitor and a formidable opponent. Being of such a young age still, Todd's Coach expects him to peak at just the right time for the next Olympics.

Todd is an instictual fighter who uses his boxing smarts, gut instinct and amazing hand speed to best his opponents. Todd attributes his cool and competent attitude to his ability to live in the moment and take each step as it comes.

For seven consecutive years Todd has held court as one of the most talented amateur fighters that Queensland has ever seen. Winning the prestigious Aurther Tunstall 2 years in a row is the first for any Australian Boxer. The award for the best senior boxer is an honour that sits modestly on this young mans shoulders. His commitment to attaining the highest standards in the Sport of Boxing has seen him earn much respect and admiration, both in the ring and outside of it.

Todd's hectic competition schedule has seen him participate in intensive training programs designed by his Coach, Richard Ford and Bodo Andreass, the Head Coach of the Australian Boxing Team. Todd has travelled extensively across Australia and the world training and competing.

This includes a solo jaunt to Poland, where he was taken 'back to basics' and challenged to greater heights in a country where Boxing is more than just a sport. For months, Todd was the only English speaking fighter being trained by the Polish National Coach. It wasn't until the coach's daughter came back to visit her dad, that he could finally communicate through her, just how well he was doing, and extend an open invitation to him to train with his team.

This was a proud and very relieved moment for Todd, who up until that point, had no idea of his progess in the eyes of the coach. These were lonely times for Todd, but the experience helped to mature this humble young champion, and set him on a learning curve that has seen him grow in confidence and ability.

The Future

After a brief period of rest and recovery, Todd will continue to train in Brisbane, under his much respected Trainer, Richard Ford. Todd is kindly sponsored the use of facilities by ATIVA Health & Fitness.

Many Thamks goes to Matt Cooper at ATIVA Health & Fitness.

Todd is a great advocate for the Sport and has a maturity beyond his years, both inside the ring and out. He is a true blue champion and is well on the way to achieving his Gold Medal Dream.

"...beyond this year
I will strive towards the pinnacle of every athletes career.. the 2008 Olympics
in Beijing..."
